Geochemical Analysis

Geochemical analysis of soils is a key indirect corrosion assessment approach.

There are three techniques commonly used by Rock Solid Group;

- ExCor
- Australian Standards listings
- LPR (Linear Polar Resistance)

External corrosion of pipelines commonly occurs as a result of embedment of pipes and other structures into corrosive environments without appropriate surface coatings or protective systems.

When a pipe is buried in corrosive environments, premature failure commonly occurs.

An understanding of the geological conditions that give rise to corrosive environments is essential for the maintenance and management of buried infrastructure.

As part of any detailed buried infrastructure programs, corrosivity of embedment soils is key in determining where external corrosion is likely to occur and
where direct assessment of the infrastructure should be undertaken.
